The Parker solar probe will be the first spacecraft to actually go into the sun’s corona, the outermost layer of the sun. This will solve questions as to why the corona is hotter than the surface of the sun even though it is farther from the core than the surface. The Parker solar probe will be launched on 31st July 2018 and will orbit around Venus for six years before making its approach towards the sun on 19th December 2024 (that’s a long way off). The Parker solar probe has been named after the famous astrophysicist Eugene Parker.
