INDIA TOUR OF WEST INDIES #3 ODI
WEST INDIES VS INDIA
CATCHES WIN MATCHES
Has Hope dropped the match? He misdjudged the ball and it is a tendency for point fielders to charge in but that’s no excuse to drop Virat Kohli’s catch
INDIAN SQUAD DEPTH
Currently, India has the deepest squad in the world. Rohit Sharma, Dhawan, Rahane and KL Rahul are there for the opening slot whereas most countries have to promote other batsmen up the order when their openers are not available. Virat Kohli is the best no.3 in the world right now. Dinesh Karthik, Rahane, Yuvraj and Pant can bat at no.4, Dhoni, Yuvraj and Raina can bat at no.5. India has Jadhav, Jadeja, Ashwin, Pandya, J Yadav, Binny and Umesh Yadav can play at the no.6 to no.9 positions. India has Kuldeep Yadav, Bumrah, B Kumar, Unadkat and Shami as bowling options too.
PREVIEW: INDIA FAVOURITES
India start out as favourites today, some changes are expected to be made in today’s match, Rishabh Pant will probably come into the squad in place of Yuvraj Singh or Ashwin today. Kuldeep Yadav is expected to play as well. For the West Indies, Ashley Nurse and Bishoo are the people who can change the game, both have the ability to turn the ball, bowl accurately and control the flow of runs. Another top notch performance expected by the Indian top three.
INDIA: Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli(c), Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni(wk), Kedhar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravi Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvi Kumar.WEST INDIES:
WEST INDIES: Kieran Powell, Shai Hope(wk), Jason Mohammed, Evin Lewis, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder(c), Roston Chase, Ashley Nurse, D Bishoo, A Joseph, M Cummins
ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2017 FINAL
INDIA VS PAKISTAN
PAK: 338/4 (50)
IND: 158 (30.3)
PAKISTAN WON BY 180 RUNS
HATS OFF TO PAKISTAN
In the end, Pakistan was the better team. Hats off to the batsmen who gained momentum as they went towards the end of the tournament, also to the team who changed their game and style of play after that initial loss against India. Hardik Pandya was batting magnificently and with positive intent and who knows what would have happened if that Du Plessis-Miller moment had not occurred? India will surely look to improve their bowling unit, particularly Bumrah and his left foot which cost India 114 runs today. Also, Virat Kohli has still not featured in. a big run chase ever since he became captain, questions will be raised and India will have to answer them in the West-Indies series
THE VIRAT KOHLI SHOW?
India will need to pull off the biggest run chase of the champions trophy so far by registering the biggest total of the champions trophy as well. This is a run chase, and every Indian run chase has to feature Virat Kohli. Kohli is the key and only he can chase down this total. If India is to win, the openers will have to lay a solid foundation as well. India’s slow starts and the team gaining momentum as the match progresses will not work, the openers will have to come out all guns blazing and that too against a bowling attack which consists of Mohammed Amir and Junaid Khan, a bowling attack which had South Africa and England reeling.
ANOTHER CRUCIAL WICKET FOR INDIA
Shoaib Malik had already decided to hit that ball before the ball had even been bowled, India will want to fight back now, particularly Virat Kohli. First Fakhar Zaman and now Malik. Another wicket or two may turn the game around and restrict Pakistan to around 280-290, especially the wicket of Sarfraz Khan. Also, how good have Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar been? If India is to win this final, they have to dismiss Babar Azam quickly.
WHAT A CENTURY FOR FAKHAR ZAMAN!!
The youngster today has been what the Pakistani cricket team has not been in the last 3-4 years, he might even herald a new age for Pakistani cricket! India again regretting bowling a no-ball, particularly Jasprit Bumrah who too bowled a no-ball to dismiss Lendl Simmons in the T20 world cup semi-final India went on to lose the final. What has been surprising is that Virat Kohli has not brought on Kedhar Jadhav to bowl. Hardik Pandya has bowled well but Jadeja and Ashwin have been below-par.
HUGE WICKET FOR INDIA!
Finally, the Indians have a wicket! Humongous wicket, the Indian bowlers have to capitalise on this breakthrough or Pakistan might run away with the game with their already superior run rate. Will Kohli bring on Jadhav or himself for a few tight and quick overs?
PAKISTAN CONTINUE DOMINANCE
India really needs to stop the flow of runs, primarily Ashwin. Ashwin has played the role of a run-conservative bowler today, which is not what he normally does, he is good at taking wickets and he has to set his mindset straight. Also, three-four half chances have not gone India’s way, Kedhar Jadhav, Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh could have featured in a run-out each but those opportunities have passed by now.
That no ball has cost India dearly, Pakistan currently dominant at 48-0 after eight overs, Bumrah has sorely underperformed after that no-ball wth too many wides and bad line and length. If India are to come back, they have to take a wicket and also build pressure by stopping singles and the flow of runs which has come as a surprise, before these eight overs, no one would have given the Pakistani batting line-up a chance.
Brilliant Bowling by Bumrah but luck on Zaman’s side. Anyone remember Lendl Simmons in the World T20 Semi-Final? Will Zaman capitalise on this life-saving opportunity?
INDIA OPT TO BOWL
The El Clasico of cricket is going to start in just 5 minutes! It’s the Pakistani bowling vs the Indian batting in the second half of the match but how the Pakistani batsmen face the Indian bowlers in the first innings will shape the match. India is playing with the same eleven and Pakistan have Mohammed Amir back inside the squad after he missed the semi-final against England. Again, Pakistan are the underdogs, similar to their last 3 matches in the Champions Trophy against South Africa, Sri Lanka and England. Interesting fact: Virat Kohli has played only three times against Junaid Khan and has been dismissed three times by the same bowler. Other than Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh is the key batsmen for India, as he showed in the first group stage match against Pakistan. For Pakistan, Fakhar Zaman may hold the key to victory, his attacking demeanour combined with Azhar Ali’s patient batting is sure to test the Indian bowlers, particularly Bhuvneshwar Kumar who is tasked with getting early wickets. Another fact: five out of six CT Finals have been won chasing, Indiawase the first team to successfully defend their first innings total in a CT Final in 2013.
India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni(wk), Kedhar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah
Pakistan: Azhar Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammed Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed(c, wk), Imad Wassem, R Raees, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali and Junaid Khan
